Let's get really specific and talk about what the new moon itself actually means spiritually, what it represents, and how you can work with this new moon energy in really tangible ways for your own personal practice. So step inside, Spirit Speakeasy. Hey, beautiful soul, welcome in for another episode of Spirit Speakeasy. This week we're doing something very exciting. We are gonna talk about working with the moon. And I'm giving you a two-part series, starting with the new moon and then moving on to the full moon. Have you ever stood outside on a clear night and just stopped and gazed up and been totally mesmerized by a beautiful glowing light shining down? That is her. That is the moon. Here's one of the things I love about working with the moon. It's one of the only quote-unquote spiritual practices that requires nothing from you. You don't need special tools or perfect conditions or needing to get things exactly right. She's already there, the gorgeous moon that we all know. She's already been pulling the tides and marking time and quietly witnessing every one of our lives long before any of us had a name for what we were feeling or experiencing when we looked up at her glowing light. And working with the moon isn't about adding another task to your plate. It's about noticing a rhythm that is already happening all around you. And you get to decide on your own terms if you want to move with it, work with it. It can be grounding, it can be clarifying. Honestly, it can just be a lot of fun to work with the energy of the moon. Maybe a little excuse for you to take some private time, light a candle, sit outside for an extra five minutes. It can be deeply nurturing, especially in the current world that rarely gives us permission to slow down and feel something on purpose. So here is where we are headed today. I'm going to share a little of my own history with the moon. Then we're going to take a quick trip through some history and mythology around why the moon's so special, why she gets so much attention, why you even should work with her or should want to work with her. Because as it turns out, people have been doing some version of working with the moon for thousands of years. And then we'll get to the real heart of it. New moon energy specifically, what it means, how to work with the moon, and a few simple practices that you can try. I, because you guys know I'm a little extra, I've carved them out into three sections. More of a physical practice for your physical body, an emotional practice because working with the energy of the moon is deeply emotional, and a spiritual practice for some extra fun and woo-woo around that. That's what we'll have in this episode, and then I'll do the same in the follow-up episode for the full moon. And because there was so much to cover, I wanted to cover both sides, the new moon and the full moon. So I've split this into two parts, two-part episode. Today is all new moon. And next time we will flip to the opposite end of her journey and go deep into the full moon. I want to quickly share with you why the moon matters to me, my own relationship with the moon. I've been working with moon energy in an intentional and conscious way for over 15 years now in my own personal spiritual practice and growth. But if I'm honest, my relationship with the moon goes back a lot further than that. As a teenager, I of course did little bits of work. I definitely had uh a ring with the moon on it. Now, if you're watching the video version, you'll see I'm wearing all my moonstone today for this episode. Uh, but I really felt a connection to the mysteriousness of the moon as a teen, but I even have memories far back into my childhood where uh the moon is involved, gazing at her, watching her light. I've always been fascinated by the way the moon shows up in our world. And maybe I wasn't back then working with the energy of the moon in an intentional way, uh, way before I had language for any of it, but just loving her. And I don't know if this is true for any of you, but I have always loved the light of the moon, the way on a rainy night it streams down the uh kind of rain-touched streets and paints the whole road silver, or where I live now, there are lots of street lights. So, like watercolors, it just paints the light down the street, especially when it's rainy. I also have a lot of clear memories growing up in New England of the way this the moonlight glistens across a very quiet, silent night of freshly fallen, deep snow. The way the moonlight highlights the glistening, crystally, pristine snow is really just a very special memory for me. It's one of the most perfect scenes that I have frozen in my mind. And if you've spent any time with the snow, especially around those very silent, quiet, perfect nights when the snow has fallen and the moon is just glistening down, you will know exactly what I mean. And I even love the way she goes dark in her new moon phase, almost like she's stepping back on purpose to allow the stars to have a moment to shine a little brighter in a perfectly dark sky. I have loved the moon my whole life. If you can't tell, long before I knew any of it had anything to do with something spiritual. It was just always there and I was always looking for her. Let me know if you can relate to this. And if you haven't had this lifelong love affair with the moon, maybe these tools and tips and tidbits that I'm going to give you today will kind of start you engaging with her in a different way. And here's a little bit of an honest confession for you, especially around the new moon. We all know the full moon gets all the glory. She's the gorgeous one, the dramatic one, arguably the most famous version of the moon herself that she ever shows us. But if you ask me, as an adult and in my own spiritual work, my own personal practice as a spiritual practitioner, it's not the full moon that has my heart. It's the new moon, the quiet one, the mysterious one, the one that invites us to go deep within to the places where those sacred mysteries and magic are actually held. And as it turns out, I am in very good company. People have been quietly obsessing over the moon, especially her quieter, darker side for as long as we have seen her in the sky. I want to take a quick trip through history with this because for me, there's something fascinating about these ancient connections to folklore and stories and mysteries around the moon. And I think it can color or even add a little bit of, I don't know, depth to the way that we personally work with her and our own practices. The moon has been humanity's timekeeper long before clocks and calendars and the wonderful apps that we all have today. Ancient cultures across the world, from Babylon to China, and many indigenous nations of North America have built entire calendars around the moon and the cycles of the moon. For example, words like month, like month of the year, literally come from moon. Farmers planted and harvested by her phases for eons, sailors navigated by the light of the moon. And one of the mythical and mystical traditions that highlights the moon the most is Greek mythology, home to not one but three moon goddesses. The Greeks and Romans saw the faces of the moon as separate faces of one energetic entity, let's just say. The first one is Celene. This represents the moon itself, up in the sky. She is the celestial body that we know as the moon. Then there's Artemis. The moon's influence here on Earth is what she represents. Her core domains are things like the hunt, wild animals, wilderness, childbirth. The moon here, as it relates to Artemis, is the association that's layered on because she was seen as governing the rhythms of nature in this phase. And then there is Hicate, which many people know as famous these days. Hicate is the moon's connection to what is unseen, the night, magic, witchcraft, uh, deep prayers and spells, crossroads, the spirit world, the underworld. Hikate is the keeper of the dark mysteries and the unseen world. So in Greek mythology, the moon goddess Celene, as the myth goes, fell in love with a mortal shepherd, and she couldn't bear the thought of losing him to age or to his own death. So in her wily way, she had him placed in an eternal, dreamless sleep. Oh, these Greek myths, uh, so that he would never age and never die. And then, because of this true love that she felt, she would travel every single night. She'd leave her chariot in the sky, as the myth goes, to go and visit him in the cave where he slept forever. It's one of the only Greek myths, actually, that has a quote-unquote happy ending. I don't know how happy it is for the shepherd, but it is really this representation of happy ending just showing up night after night for someone you love. Her mythology continues on. Her mythological cousin, Selene's, is Artemis. And Artemis in the Greek mythology takes a very different approach to love. So Artemis is, remember, it's the moon's effect on the earth in this representation. And in Greek mythology, Artemis is the twin sister of Apollo. So someone you've probably heard of. Apollo's the sun god. And Artemis, she was actually born first. And moments after her own birth, she helped to deliver her brother Apollo. As the story goes, she was still a young child when she asked Zeus for a very specific list, divine feminine in all her power. She wished to her father Zeus for eternal independence, her own silver bow, her own hunting grounds, and a life entirely on her own terms. Can you relate to any of these desires? And of course, Zeus, being the loving God that he was to his daughter, granted all of it. And she became the fierce, self-possessed huntress of the group, ruling the moon's influence on Earth, things like instinct and wilderness, while her brother Apollo ruled the sun, which includes things like reason and music. And the crescent moon became one of her signature symbols because she asked for a special hunting instrument, the bow, and that is seen in the crescent moon. How cool, right? So we have been following the moon in mythology for more than we realize. And here's a little fun fact for you: a little modern twist. NASA actually named its current lunar program Artemis, specifically because the original moon landing missions were called Apollo. So basically, the sun god program from the 60s and 70s now has its literal moon goddess twin sending astronauts back to space today. Moon mythology literally rebooted at NASA. How cool is that? The third of the moon trio from ancient Greek mythology is Hecate, one of the most beautiful and special mythical goddesses. And with Hicate, this one is even more real and even more tangible in a lot of ways because she's the only goddess like this that has ritual behind her in actual practice in the lives of people, not just in the mythology. In the oldest source we have on Hicate, actual writings that were written around 700 BCE, she's actually depicted as an unusually powerful uh influence across the sky, the earth, the sea, and even more far-reaching than almost any other god in the text that I'm talking about from 700 BCE. It's really the later Greek and Roman traditions that kind of narrow down her influence as goddess of the night, magic, the unseen world, how we know and talk about her since then today. And true to that reputation, Hikate, uh, her connection to the moon shows up less in a story and more in an actual monthly practice on the dark moon, which is the new moon, the one we're talking about today, right before that little sliver of crescent moon appeared. In ordinary Athenian households, they would leave out simple meals uh across the countryside and on crossroads before their own doorstep, for example, as a way of releasing whatever was unresolved the month before and turning over a new leaf, so to speak. And so that was part of the ritual for Hikate. They'd leave meals and uh treats and sweets at crossroads. So that could be like an actual intersection crossroads, or it could be even the threshold of your own doorstep if you wanted to integrate some of this fun practice. And the very next night, the instant the new moon appeared, the mood would flip completely. And rest and small offerings and a fresh start to release on the dark moon, the fresh start on the new moon, right? A household ritual that is over 2,000 years old and one that very modern Hellenic pagans still observe today. So just know that these practices are ancient and still very much practiced today. And just a little side note here if you feel like you would love a whole deep dive episode just on Hikate and how to work with her energy, please let me know. She is amazing all on her own and deserves a whole episode. But I just wanted to let you know how her energy ties in specifically to the new moon and to all of the unseen mysterious world, as you might imagine. I love that feature. So let me know if you want a Hikate episode in the comments wherever you are getting this. Uh, that's the thing about the moon, though. She has been important forever and she's still mysterious. She's fact and feeling and science and story, all there for us in the sky. And all of that history matters for one simple reason. When you sit down with the new moon or the full moon in the next episode, you're not making something up. You're not alone in practicing and using, harnessing, working with the energy of the full moon. You're actually stepping into a rhythm that people have leaned into for thousands of years in a dozen different languages under a dozen different skies. So let's get really specific and talk about what the new moon itself actually means spiritually, what it represents, and how you can work with this new moon energy in really tangible ways for your own personal practice. So, first let's talk a little bit about the spiritual energy of the new moon because in order to do the practices, it's important to know what are our intentions, what can we uh work with as far as energy from this new moon. So, at the most basic level, the new moon is the moment that the moon is dark and visible to our eyes. She is sitting directly between the earth and the sun. And from where we stand, our vantage point on earth, she shows us none of her light, none of her lit face. Uh, obviously, I think most of you did enough middle school science that you know the light of the moon is uh the sun reflected off the moon to us, and that's how she's highlighted for us. So, dark moon, no sunlight being reflected, showing her beautiful face. But before she begins to kind of turn, uh, she has this moment of darkness, right? That's the new moon. And she's not turning her face from us necessarily, but she is turning into herself, held in her own darkness, lit by no one else's light, needing nothing from the outside, just herself to be whole. That is one of the things I love about the new moon. And hang on to that theme. And before she begins to turn back outward and reflect the light to us again, she belongs briefly only to herself. And this alone literally and symbolically holds a message for all of us. Uh, we don't need to be in anyone else's light. We are enough just ourselves. And if you take nothing else from this new moon episode, please take that mirror that she gives to you that you are enough. You are worthy. You don't need anyone to shine on you to be completely worthy and powerful in and of yourself. Spiritually, this is where it gets even more interesting. In the new moon phase, the moon represents our deepest intuition. It's that full blueprint and spark of life that already lives in the deepest, darkest, quietest parts of ourself, long before we can see it or prove it or explain any of it to anyone. This is essentially the gestation part of the cycle. The light hasn't been shed on the path yet. And that's not a problem to fix. That's exactly the point. We're not meant to see the whole path in the new moon phase. We're collecting ourselves, we're nurturing, restoring, clarifying our intentions within ourselves, holding space for the energy of our own soul, doing that inner work in secret, in quiet, not for show, not for the world, not for anyone who might be watching. This work is done in silence for us and us alone. It is not a hiding away all alone type of energy. It's a coming home into yourself in the new moon. Think of it almost as a seed underground before anything green ever breaks through the surface of the earth. From the outside, it looks like nothing is happening to that little seed that's planted under the ground. But everything that will eventually become of the plant that you planted already exists in the seed, is already being written inside in total darkness, completely unseen. This is the vibe of the new moon. And the new moon asks us kind of the same type of trust that we would give a seed that we've planted. It's that not yet visible doesn't mean not yet happening, right? It usually means the opposite, actually. It means the real work, the root work is happening exactly where no one, maybe not even us ourselves, can fully see the results yet. This is also why the new moon belongs to intuition more than logic. Logic wants like proof and evidence and measurement and something to point to. And intuition doesn't need the light on it to be true. It already senses the shape of what's coming, the way that we can move through a familiar dark room in our home, for example, by memory alone, without needing to see the room. That is how the new moon connects in with our intuition. The new moon is of trusting what you know before you can prove it or even put it in the word into words for anyone. And sometimes that means not even being able to fully understand it ourselves yet. And this new moon phase also has a few spiritual gifts of her own to offer you if you let her. Talk a little bit about some of the spiritual gifts of the new moon. I'm really hoping you'll get excited to work with her because I just love this new. Moon energy. So one of the things that the new moon phase represents is a closeness with Hikate, who we were just talking about a few minutes ago. This is her part of the phase. The goddess of the hidden, of the unseen, she actually rules this exact darkness, the new moon darkness. And she also rules that veil between what is visible and what feels not the thinnest, right here. So often when we talk about the thinning of the veil, that can happen in the new moon phase because it is connected to Hikate, who rules the unseen world. Are you following me? I hope so. This is a very natural time for quiet ritual and magic making, so to speak, or simply listening to the parts of yourself that don't get acknowledged or that you're not necessarily holding space for in your regular day-to-day life. One of the other spiritual gifts, there's a few here that I have for you, of this new moon phase is a sharper inner knowing. The new moon often brings a different, quiet psychic sensitivity. Some people experience more dream recall or more vivid dreams, a different version of gut instinct. Sometimes there is a lot of symbology or synchronicity that we will notice around us in this new moon phase. These don't disappear in the dark, they actually rise a little bit more to the surface, and they're almost even more available to be felt in this new moon energy, not less. Once the room gets fully dark, for example, other senses take over. It's the same way with this new moon. The moon is fully dark, and so it gives this deep well for us to explore in our own sensing, our own emotional being, our own intuition and our own spirituality. This new moon is also a quieter, more grounded, still version of the divine feminine energy. It's not the loud, radiant, fully in bloom version that is the full moon, although she's incredibly special too. This is the grounded, gestating form of the divine feminine energy, the energy of nature before anything sprouted, of soil doing that invisible work, of a body growing something no one can see yet. This is the divine feminine as patient and deep, not on display in all her glory, but swimming in that deep well of her own mysterious authority and power. There is also an ancient cellular wisdom that lives with this new moon. It's the same intelligence that lives in our DNA and tells that buried seed that we were talking about in that dark soil exactly how to regenerate with no sunlight, no instructions, no one watching. It doesn't need to be seen to be told what to do. It's the same with our DNA, it's the same with how our cells work. That is the type of deep, true, constant wisdom that we can access even more readily during the new moon phase. So if you're someone that likes to work with Akashic Records or wants to sit with your guides and wants this going within and spending quiet time, that is part of what the new moon energy is completely primed for. Even the oceans answer to this invisible new moon phase. At the new moon, the sun and the moon line up directly with the earth and their pull combines into some of the strongest tides of the whole month. It's the highest high tides, the lowest low tides, and they happen in near total darkness because the moon is hidden in this phase. But even though her face is hidden from us, her strength is more potent, not less. So that is the vibe of this new moon. Whatever's guiding that in the tide, in the seed, in our DNA, it's never something that we had to consciously work with or operate. It just knows. So just know you don't have to consciously work with this energy for it to already be a play in your life, even though in a few minutes we're going to talk about how to consciously work with this energy. Cause I know a lot of you want a little something extra if you're here. Another spiritual gift that the new moon offers us is discernment over decision making. It's less about what should I do, and more about what do I actually feel underneath everything that I think I should feel. The new moon has this beautiful way of rewarding that kind of quiet pondering and contemplation. This is how you realign with your truest self by moving into this deep feeling space, not by making more and more active choices. We should be aligned with that deepest, truest part of ourself before we are taking action. This is the phase to really supercharge that reconnection with self. And it also offers us this beautiful space for real companionship with our own presence. This is beyond the airy-fairy versions of self-love. The new moon offers us space and depth for actual true self-love, self-companionship, and being with the presence of our own soul. One of the spiritual gifts of being fully enough for ourselves, uh, needing no one else's light, right? We were talking about not even the light of the moon its own to feel whole. You are enough. That's really one of the biggest spiritual gifts of the new moon, and spending time in the presence of ourselves as a soul to really feel and get to embody that enoughness in an intentional way. So that is what she means. In just a second, here we're going to move on and get really practical because all of that inner wisdom and quiet gestation is wonderful to sit with. But you might be also wondering, okay, what do I actually do to work with the energy of the new moon? I'm about to give you a few simple ways to work with her for, like I said, your physical body, your emotional body, and your spiritual body, a little menu to choose from of exercises and ideas, if you will. So before we get into the how-to portion of all of this, I want to say something really important that I want you to hear. None of what follows in this menu that I'm about to give you is meant to become one more task on your to-do list. I know we are all so busy in our lives right now. If new moon rituals start to feel like something you have to get right or something that you'll fail or mess up or pressure to not miss it, that's not the spirit of this work at all. So it's okay to drop it, put it aside, guilt-free, and come back whenever you want to. There's no superstition required here. Nothing bad happens if you skip a cycle or don't journal or fall asleep during your meditation. It's fine. This isn't a system that you can fail at working with the moon cycles. You're already always in a relationship with the moon. She's been there uh before you got here, and she'll be there long after we are no longer present in the same physical bodies. So you already have this ongoing relationship with her energy. She doesn't need a ritual from you to keep doing her work in the background. She's more than happy to be one of your quiet supporters for your time here on earth, lending her energy to your life, even if you never acknowledge the moon at all. So everything from here forward is an invitation, not an assignment. I'm talking to my overachievers out there. Take what calls to you, leave the rest. You can come back next month or next year and hear the menu options again. However, you engage with the energy of the moon, deeply or occasionally, whether it's tonight or six months from now, it's enough. Learn from your own practice and trust yourself because you truly already know her to some degree. So I just want to put that out there for you. And just a heads up for those of you that are like, I don't even know when the new moon is or when the full moon is or how to even tell. Uh, if you have an old school wall calendar, usually there's a little depiction of the moon phase on there, at least for new moon and full moon. And if you are a little more techie or in the 21st century, so to speak, there are so many apps now that will show you the phase of the moon. They'll even send you in a little alert if you want, kind of 24 hours before the new moon or the full moon. You can track the phases. And if that all feels like way too much, you can also just Google the dates of the new moon and the full moon and just put a little note on your calendar or set a little reminder for yourself. And a quick pro tip as we're diving into the actions and workings here. Uh, I just want to mention that the energy of the new moon extends for a day or two before and after the actual new moon. And she's very forgiving, as you might imagine, the uh deepest, most profound representation of the divine feminine. Uh so if you can't like get it on your calendar for the actual day of the new moon, this energy is available a few days before the full the actual new moon or full moon and a few days after. So be gentle with yourself. Uh, it's supposed to be fun and delicious and hopefully delightful and maybe even profound. And these are suggestions also that I'm about to give you. So for those of you that are really creative in your own way and like to make your practices your own, you're more than welcome to use this little menu about to give you for inspiration and just kind of freestyle from what inspires you. I'm not just gonna give you a list, I'm gonna teach you what we're actually going for with these practices so that you can create any version of it that you want from here and forever. Did I mention that I love the moon? Because I really do. Uh, in this new moon, she's my friend. So let's get right into these methods of actually working with the energy of the moon. This first method that I want to talk about, or or little first segment of the menu, let's call it, is something restorative for your physical body. One idea that you can do in the energy of the new moon, and remember, the new moon, while we often think of moon at night, the moon is also there in the day. So you can integrate any of these practices into the daytime also, uh, if nighttime doesn't work for you, or vice versa. Let's talk a little bit about a gentle stretching session or a little yin yoga routine for restoration of your actual physical body. This can be before bed or in the morning or both. If you want to really take care of yourself, if you have an extra 10 minutes to carve out twice in your schedule, nothing intense. This is a time for restoring the body, nurturing the body. And as you stretch to take it to a deeper level, breathe into the deepest parts of your physical body while you receive quiet, grounded strength from the energy of the new moon. And even imagine it filling your bones with divine feminine power. I just want to mention quickly here, our listenership is primarily female-bodied people. However, I just want to highlight that the divine feminine energy is present in all of us, no matter what form our body takes in this lifetime. We all have divine feminine and divine masculine energy in us. So, new moon is a time to really highlight this deep divine feminine energy. So as you're stretching, and it can be in yoga, but it can also be just a freestyle stretching, really just being present with yourself, feeling that you're nurturing your body and breathing into those very deep joints and muscle structures. And imagine filling even your bones with that divine feminine power. The second option on this restoration for the physical body segment of our menu is trying a spiritual bath. They, these are really fun, actually. So Epsom salts are all always wonderful. I mean, check with your doctor, obviously, for anything you're gonna do, a blanket caveat, but Epsom salts are typically wonderful for most people's physical body. So you can just make a regular bath in a bathtub if you have it, uh, and put a little bit of Epsom salt, which helps to ease soreness in the muscles and joints. And if you want a little extra layer, you can put a couple drops of something like an essential oil of rose or an essential oil of jasmine or lavender. I will say make sure the oil is a pure medicinal grade. It will say 100% on the front or the back of the bottle. You don't want it mixed with other oils. And as a trained aromatherapist, just a few drops. I know that we can get a little carried away and go overboard. These oils are medicinal, meaning like they're potent and powerful. You should never be ingesting them into your mouth or into your body. Uh, jasmine essential oil is particularly strong. So, in a whole bathtub, probably one, maybe two drops will do. Yeah. Uh rose, you could probably use three or four drops, and same with lavender. And as you create the bath, right, even imagine kind of stirring into the water or put your hands over the water and just fill with your intentions this water as it's filling the bath. Water is a really powerful conduit of energy itself. And you can even ask the new moon to bless the intentions that you're putting into the water. So you can put in intentions just by intending. You can do it while you're sitting in the bath. You can do it while your bath is filling and you're putting your drops or doctoring it up however you like. Some people like to light candles. You don't need to. It's just making it feel special and nurturing for yourself. And as you ask the new moon to bless these intentions, just see what comes up for you. This is fully customizable. And if you want to go all the way with your bath, you can even look up special bath oils, body oils. Etsy has a huge selection of special tea bags that are for the bath that are infused with various herbs and potions and wonderful things. And some of them support the energy of working with the new moon. But this energy is really about going to those deep spiritual and emotional places within yourself, loving those parts of yourself, nurturing those parts of yourself. And I want to give a little pro tip here: an intention, when I said you're like stirring the water or putting the drops in, or even sitting in the bath, giving an intention. As far as intentions go, this could be something so simple. It could be a word or an emotion word like love. Maybe your intention is to fill yourself with love. Maybe it's to be held in love. It can be as complex as intending to sit in the energy of uncertainty. Um, because remember, this is that quiet phase of unseen and sometimes unfelt things, right? So it can be uh receiving, for example, can be your intention and feel whatever comes up for you as you're sitting in this intention that's held in this water. Baths can be relaxing and nurturing, or they can hold sacred space for really deep work. The way I say it to my class groups usually is healer's choice. Uh, and you are healing yourself if you're doing one of these spiritual baths. There's a little bonus on this one. Uh, if you don't like baths, or if you don't have access to a bathtub, which uh I know not everyone does, or if you just want a little special number three add-on for this part of the menu, you can do a mini version of sort of like a spiritual bath, just in a mug or a cup of warm water or warm tea or similar drink, whatever type of warm drink that you like. It can really be anything. And you can stir it and infuse your intentions into that liquid. And instead of marinating your whole body in there from the outside, like a bath, as you sip the tea or the warm water with lemon or whatever it is you like, you are infusing those intentions from the inside out. So it is a different way to do it. It's often, to be quite honest, the way I do it, I don't do baths a lot once in a blue moon. Uh again, I want to say here very clearly, do not drink essential oils. They are not meant to be ingested into your body orally. I know that there are these uh multi-level marketing companies that tell you to do so. Please don't do it. They're not meant to be eaten. Uh, they're meant to be diffused. So do, however, even though you're not going to put essential oil in your drink, you are going to infuse intentions into your drink. Uh so it can be while you stir it, it could be just holding your hand over it, it could be infusing the water even as you're like boiling it and creating the tea. So the more you can infuse your intentions and be present with yourself. Remember asking the new moon to bless the tea with her energy, to bring up those deep hidden things that you might need to know right now. So that is our for the physical body section of the menu. Now let's move on to uh something explorative for the emotional body. So I have come up with a few journaling prompts and exercises here. I will list the journaling prompts in the show notes so you won't have to go back to get them if you want to use the journaling prompts. And because this energy of the new moon really can bring up these um tender places, these deep hidden emotions, or this energy of our spiritual gifts and connection to the unseen world, journaling can be really helpful to kind of shake loose some of the energy and allow it to like bubble up to our awareness, if you will. So let's talk a little bit about this journaling process. You can, if it feels good to you, use some soft background music, uh, even like a light kind of gong music. YouTube has a lot of this type of meditation background music as a resource. Uh, so you can even have some light like gong music or chanting music in the background if that helps you feel focused and relaxed. And setting up for your journaling experience can be a full setup with like soft lighting and candles and a special journal and cozy slippers if you like it that way. Or it can be as simple as you like. It can be a 35 cents notebook from the back to school section with a regular pen that you have in just your regular outfit and just some alone time aside. So there are no rules for how your journaling has to look. It's whatever feels good to you. And all you truly need is some time and space that you can be alone and write, to be honest. So I'm gonna go through these journaling prompts with you and just let them land in your body, even if the time you're listening to this is not a new moon cycle, you'll start to see how this might help you when we are in the energy of the new moon even more. And again, I will put these journaling prompts in the show notes wherever you're getting this episode. So the first journaling prompt to consider, and again, like I mentioned at the top, you could do all of these, you could choose one, whatever feels good, make your own rules here. What is one emotion that wants to be recognized or felt from deep within me right now? And as I say that, as this lands with you in your emotional body, in your physical body, sometimes it might be a challenging emotion that takes your attention. Sometimes it might be a good feeling emotion. This is not all heavy work. The depths of us contains all of us, which is on the challenging side of the spectrum and on the light, airy, beautiful side of the spectrum. So, what is one emotion that wants to be recognized or felt from deep within me right now? Next journaling prompt. What is one secret, deeply held thought, fear, or musing that I have had recently that I don't want anyone to know? Remember, new moon is about those secret, hidden, unseen places that we don't show to the world. So I'm gonna go over this one again. What is one secret, deeply held thought, fear, or musing that I have had recently that I do not want anyone to know? Oh, I can feel that in my almost like my hip bones, actually. I'm so curious how these are landing for you guys. Okay, the next journaling prompt is if I wasn't afraid. What's one intention, inspiration, or intuition that I would step into more fully right now? If I wasn't afraid, what's one intention, inspiration, or intuition that I would step more fully into right now? And the last journaling prompt of this little part of the menu is what is the message my soul self has for me right now? What is the message my soul self has for me right now? And I will say the reason that I built the working suggestions this way is if you can do either like the cup of blessed tea or some nice stretching for your body and then do the journaling, you're so much more primed to allow, especially this last one. What's the message my soul self has for me right now? Well, you have to be open and available, and it helps if you feel aligned and connected in with your soul self. And sometimes just quieting down and breathing into our body can help that be more available to us. So if you are someone who's a little extra and want to combine these, that's the ideal way to use them. Um, okay, so this last part of the menu that I want to give you is something nurturing for the spiritual body. This is a meditation. Uh, it's not one that you're gonna like listen to my voice. I'm just gonna tell you how to do it because the beauty of this meditation is that it can be short, like 10 minutes, or if you have time and you're in a phase where you really want a deep connection, or maybe just one month, you feel like, yeah, I'm gonna really do this for longer. You can do this meditation for as long as you want. I wouldn't go more than an hour just because there's no more benefit for over an hour than there is at the hour point. Uh, so to do this new moon meditation and remember, not just having to be on the day of the new moon, but within a few days before to a few days after in that little spectrum of time somewhere. It's great if you can find a private place where you won't be interrupted. Uh, it's lovely if you can sit somewhere comfortable. Um, you don't have to have your feet on the floor, although some people feel more grounded if they do it that way. It's nice if you just let your hands kind of rest comfortably as you begin. And the truth is, when I had kids at home, there's times where I would do these kinds of meditations, like in the bottom of my closet, or even sometimes in an empty bathtub with a bathroom door closed, because it's seemed like the only place I could get privacy, uh, or in a car. So obviously not driving, parked somewhere safe, usually in the garage. Uh, so carve out your time however you can. And when you sit to do this meditation, all you need to do is be comfortable, relax, close your eyes, take a few slow breaths, and just notice. Start to get a sense of yourself inside your own personal space, like your own personal space bubble, you being in the center of your bubble, moving all of your awareness back to yourself, back to the center of your head, really just letting everything else fade away for this little meditation time and let your awareness come all the way fully back to you from all of the busy day, not outward with anyone else, just still within yourself, fully present in this moment, just here now, you letting go of everything except the present moment. And then when you feel settled in, for some people, this takes a few minutes. Start to bring your awareness towards that new moon. Even though she's not visible, she's palpable. You can feel her and just get a sense of the moon where she is out there quietly, entirely on her own, dark, unseen, restful, deep. And just know that you're allowed to be here right now with her in her energy, sharing this time and space with her. And then as you start to get an energetic sense, a feel for the moon out there, just start to imagine a thin silver cord beginning to drift down from where you imagine that new moon to be. Let it drift down, down, down, all the way through the night sky, through any cloud cover you might have, down through the space where you are, the roof, the building, all the way down that silver cord just drifting effortlessly towards you. And as that uh silver cord approaches you in your mind's eye or in your imagination, feel it, sense it. Uh, just imagine letting that cord plug in, and you can allow it to plug into your heart or allow it to plug into your solar plexus, that place just below the rib cage where you get that gut feeling. And if you like, you can almost imagine it having like a split prong and plugging into your heart and your solar plexus. That's how I usually do it. And if you want, you can even place gently a hand on your solar plexus and a hand on your heart space. Sometimes this really helps feel that energetic connection. And then just sit in that connection. Let this energy of the deep, wise, divine, feminine, magical moon move gently into you. Let that energy fill you with her quiet presence. Feel it seeping into all of your bones, into your DNA, just wrapping its gentle love around all of your organs and systems internally. And as that light fills you up completely, imagine starting to let it shine from within you, filling up all of your auric field, all of your personal space bubble. And just sit in that energy and see what comes up for you. But really, the intention is just to sit in this quiet presence, your soul and the dark moon, and let her remind you of what you already are underneath everything. A connected, intuitive being of light, who doesn't need to be seen or recognized to be enough, who doesn't need to talk to anyone else to be validated. You can truly be validated from within those deep parts of yourself. And you can even invite her to highlight that deep connection you have with something more than meets the eye, with that unseen world, and just sit in this energy. It is likely going to be different every time you do it. And you could do it, let's say there's like a few days for that new moon cycle, a couple days before, a couple days after. You could do it each of the days, and it would probably be a little different each time. And remember, we're not seeking anything specific or demanding. This is just a receiving of uh the moon energy to you, and you can stay there as long as it feels right, whether it's 10 minutes or 40 minutes. And then when you're ready, you just offer some gratitude and allow that silver cord to dissolve from your awareness and then gently open your eyes. Uh, and you don't need me or anyone else to hand you any permission to trust yourself. Just feel what you feel, become aware of what you become aware of, that ability, that intuition, that inner knowing, um, that capacity to sit with unseen energy and still know exactly who you are as a soul, that is never something you needed to learn from anyone else. It's already within you, it's already been there. So, this little menu that I've offered today, these practices, if you try any of them or all of them, they're not teaching you how to connect to something completely new. They're just uh reminding you of something that you already carry, this deep connection to all that is, to the unseen world, to your deep emotions. And I would expect this energy for most of you to feel familiar in some way, especially when you're sitting in that energy with the silver cord for the new moon. Okay, so hopefully this has at least sparked some inspiration in you. Uh, but now you know something most people don't. The quiet night, the one no one talks about, the dark moon, might be doing all the deepest, most sacred work and will give you access to such a deeper layer of your own sacred work if you choose to work this way. So when we get to her brightest, most charming, most celebrated self next time, when we talk about the full moon in our next episode, you're going to hear a completely different side of this moon energy. And that's part of the beauty of working with the moon in all of her phases. She represents every bit of the divine feminine, every aspect of her is sacred in her grace and in her glory. You'll know what she went through in the dark to get to that bright, shining version of herself. And she really does uh echo our own journey here through the cycles that we go through in our life, these deep emotions, this well of something more than meets the eye, all the way to our outward persona and how we greet the world, right? All of it is in the moon cycle. So we'll talk about what it means to let yourself be fully illuminated, what it feels like to celebrate yourself genuinely without asking for permission, to boldly step into your full power and take aligned action, plus the power in the full moon around what actually is ready to be released and how to do that part of the work in our next episode. So I hope that you have enjoyed learning about the new moon in this episode and the full moon in the next. I hope that the new moon has really uh kind of come to your awareness as the treasure that it is. It's not, like I said, it's not the most popular, famous version, but the profound, deep uh work that's done in stillness, the sacred work is what sets us up for the rest of the cycle. Let me know if you decide to do any of these. I would love to hear your experiences and your feedback. You can leave it in the comments. And next week we will be talking about the same moon, two completely different true sides of her. You won't want to miss moon power part two, the full moon. I'm so grateful for you being here with me today. And for those of you that have asked about working with me privately, I do offer one-on-one readings and group readings. Uh, in one-on-one readings, we are either communicating with your loved ones that have already crossed over to the spirit world or your own soul to give guidance and details about your own life. You can check all of that out on my website, joyfulmedium.com, in the work with me tab. Everything's listed there. Timing, pricing, you can schedule yourself. Uh, so it's really all available to you if you are ready. Thank you so much for being here with me today and hearing about one of my great joys, the moon. I am so happy to have you as an important part of this community. Until next time, big hugs, lots of love. Bye for now from inside, Spirit Speak Easy.
